ARE COUPLES STAYING TOGETHER FOR THE KIDS?

PRESS RELEASE:

Santa Monica, California

The reasons why individuals choose to stay together vary from person to person. Many relationships fracture because the couple can find no mutual reason to continue. When you factor in life’s challenges and human characteristics, even the best relationships may not be operating smoothly.

Los Angeles DivorceMany times children are caught between two adults that may not agree on a few or more issues. It is unhealthy to expose children to a negative relationship, and kids are exceptionally keen on picking up strained or artificial voice tones and facial expressions signifying the disappearance of love and affection. Either parent may decide on a daily basis whether or not to stay in a relationship for the children’s well-being. It has been my experience that when a relationship has reached a point of no return, it is best for the children not to be used as pawns nor exposed to adult conflicts.

It is the State of California’s policy to ensure that children have frequent and continuing contact with both parents (FC3020). However, there are some situations where continuing a relationship under the same roof may be detrimental to the children’s health and well-being. Sometimes this may warrant professional assistance by a therapist, marriage counselor, or child custody evaluator to make the appropriate adjustments regarding the living conditions of the children. One possible decision after all other remedies have been exhausted is a separation or even a divorce. We must put the best interests of our children ahead of our own.
